Aluminium
Foam
A lightweight foamed metal which is also
self-skinning. Originally developed with aeronautical applications
in mind, this material has great casting capabilities. We like it
because it achieves great volume and strength whilst using minimal
resources. In fact the honeycomb effect found within the foam bubble
matrix actually increases the structural integrity of the material
due to the random diffusion of stress lines.
Aluminium Mesh
This 3D mesh has good load-bearing potentials
and is incredibly lightweight, due to both its high proportional negative
space and low-density source material (aluminium).
Aluminium
Sheet
Marketed primarily as a material to create suspended or imitation
ceilings. The aluminium sheeting is completely recycled and can be
printed on to create a diversity of visual impressions. The sheet
metal can also be stamped, punched.
Foamed
Aluminium
Panel
Unlike its castable cousin, this range
of lightweight foamed aluminium panels come in a range of thicknesses.
These panels were actually engineered and developed for formula one
racing cars and space satellites. Pretty exciting stuff, although
we especially like it because it achieves great strength whilst taking
up minimal resources. In fact the honeycomb effect found within the
foam bubble matrix actually increases the structural integrity of
the materials due to the random diffusion of stress lines.
Non-Woven
Copper Textiles
An ultra thin non-woven textile made purely from copper. The material
is spun into micro-hairs before being pressed into sheet form. Both
light and air pass easily through it which creates a sensation of
lightness around the material. However, it is also quite tough despite
the delicate aesthetic rendering it durable.
Zinc Foam
A fantastic lightweight foamed metal which is also self-skinning.
Originally developed with aeronautical applications in mind, this
material has great casting capabilities. We like it because it achieves
great volume and strength whilst using minimal resources. In fact
the honeycomb effect found within the foam bubble matrix actually
increases the structural integrity of the materials due to the random
diffusion of stress lines. However, not quite as robust as its aluminium
counterpart due to zinc's lack of structural integrity.
