The analysis of the occupation
|
- What typically are the qualifications, skills, qualities and experience required for entry to this work?
- How competitive is it for new entrants to this type of work?
- How flexible are the rules, written and unwritten, about prior qualifications, experience, age on entry, etc.?
- What is the normal method of application: answer a vacancy advertisement, write speculatively, network and seek work experience first, use an agency…?
- A lot of this information should be contained in a 'Person specification' which would usually be supplied together with a job description in response to a job application.
- Consider your 'competence': Could you meet the entry requirements when you graduate, or would some type of postgraduate course be necessary or desirable? What further skills may you have to develop? What type of experience would help?
