In a moment you will complete a questionnaire on interests.
But what are career interests and why are they so important?
- We all have 'interests' - things we like doing, be it hang gliding or reading English literature. Often these interests can indicate some of the types of jobs we may enjoy doing. For example someone whose interests revolve around socialising might be drawn to careers using a lot of interpersonal skills.
- You will have already discovered your own preference for certain activities and environments, through your involvement in family and community affairs, education, work and leisure.
- What part did such interests play in determining your choice of degree subjects?
- Interests are also important because they are often looked at by employers as evidence of your suitability. Some tell us they are particularly interested in the 'Hobbies' section of your CV. This reveals what you choose to do in your spare time rather than what you are compelled to do. It gives them many clues as to whether you would enjoy the job and fit into their organisation.
