Community Projects:
Muybridge in Translation
Muybridge in Translation is a community outreach project working with Kingston residents who speak English as a second language. Fifteen participants are working with Museum staff and an ESOL tutor to produce a multi-lingual guide to Muybridge Revolutions. Over the course of five sessions, the participants will learn more about Muybridge and his innovative photographic work, have access to the collection and develop their English skills. The resulting Muybridge in Translation guide reflects the opinions, views and reactions of the participants to the objects in the exhibition.

Muybridge, Movement and Me: Our lives in Kingston’s localities
Working with NHS Kingston & Royal Borough of Kingston Community Development department, and professional photographer Crispin Hughes, Kingston Museum will be hosting an innovative photography project for people who have been unemployed for longer than six months. With Muybridge’s motion studies as inspiration, participants will produce highly innovative self portraits. In particular they will take inspiration from his Zoopraxiscope disks which are the core of the Muybridge Revolutions show. The work will be a modern response to the show which will be relevant to the lives of the participants. An exhibition of the work produced Muybridge, Movement and Me, will be at Kingston Museum from 5-26 Mar 2011. Find out more.
