The term Informational Interview is used to distinguish this type of interview from a job interview.

The purpose of an informational interview is not to speculatively seek work, but to obtain first hand information about employment from someone who is practising in that field. This data can then inform your own job search.

However, it may happen that you are offered an employment opportunity as a result of your contact. If this occurs, so much the better. But make sure you do not allow this possibility to subvert your approach. The employer has agreed to give up their time to provide you with advice and information - not to be pumped for job offers!
