• Insulate hot water tanks


• Fix any leaking taps or pipes


• If you don’t like coming back to a dark home look into plugs with a timer device for use with a lamp


• Install chimney balloons to keep cold air out and warm air in


• Draught proof windows, doors and loft hatches


• Install a water saving device in toilet cisterns

Medium cost (£500 or less)

• Insulate loft or top up existing insulation to 27cm depth


• Install cavity wall insulation in any cavity walls


• Replace old appliances with new, energy efficient ones


• Install new heating controls such as a thermostat on each radiator

Measures that cost over £500

• Replace boilers that are older than 15 years with new condensing boilers


• Install double glazing


• Install renewable micro power or heating systems e.g. Ground source heat pumps, wind turbines, solar panels.
