We study the mechanics of granular media and slurries. Our interest is as much in fundamental theory and applications in engineering, geophysics and life sciences. The fundamental theory we have developed includes structures formation, oscillated slurries, and densely packed elastic-frictional granular aggregates. The applications include the description of various types of filtration, the break-up of comets and erosion processes. Led by Prof. M.A. Koenders
